On the 12th March 2025, Friends of the British Overseas Territories held its 12th Annual General Meeting.

The meeting began with a report provided to members from outgoing Chair of Trustees, Andrew Fox. After over a decade of service to FOTBOT, Andrew will depart from the role, but remain heavily involved in the charity as a life member. FOTBOT would like to thank Andrew for his tireless years of service, and wish him well for the future.

Members re-elected Albert Poggio GMH OBE as a Trustee, and was appointed as Chair of the Board of Trustees. Additionally, members elected Harjinder Jutle and Philip Smith as Trustees.

Harjinder is a distinguished public sector leader with a significant impact on governance and procurement in Montserrat. As the former Head of Public Procurement for five years, she played a crucial role in transforming the island’s procurement systems, ensuring transparency and value for money in major infrastructure projects. A dedicated advocate for disability rights, she continues to support Montserrat as President of the Montserrat Association for Persons with Disabilities, championing inclusive policies and representation on international platforms.

Philip Smith has been a leading advocate for the UK’s Overseas Territories, serving as CEO of FOTBOT for 12 years and spearheading its growth and influence. Under his leadership, the charity held over 100 events, led fundraisers to support good causes in the territories, and engaged directly with communities through visits and advocacy efforts across the territories. Now working at the Bank of England, he continues to bring his expertise in governance and policy to support the Overseas Territories and their communities.

FOTBOT warmly welcomes both new Trustees to their positions.

Members then heard from new Chief Executive, James Lunn, who takes over from Philip Smith. He provided members with an update on plans for the charity under his leadership, including plans for engagement across the Overseas Territories, and our plan to diversify events and fundraising.

James was appointed as Chief Executive by the Board of Trustees in February 2025 and begins his role today.
