FOTBOT attends Friends of St Helena conference in Oxford

FOTBOT volunteers attended the Friends of St Helena Annual General Meeting which was held at the Oxford University Club on June 13, 2015 The Friends of St Helena was founded in 1988 and aims to provide and share information about St Helena’s culture, history, environment and current affairs; in addition to supporting St Helenians.

Ian Mathieson was elected as Chairman of the society after which he addressed the members on a number of interesting issues including the advent of the St Helena airport. Following completion of the Society Business, attendees were briefed on the happenings of a documentary film based on Napoleon’s time on St Helena which will be filmed on the Island.

John Tyrell, a Napoleonic expert, also presented a talk about the historical events which led up to Napoleon’s exile at St Helena. In addition, our very own Philip Smith spoke to attendees about Friends of the British Overseas Territories’ charity objectives and discussed the possibility of working along with the Friends of St Helena on future projects with the aim of further increasing general awareness of the Overseas Territories.

FOTBOT was well received at the Meeting and a number of St Helenians showed interest in and joined the Friends of the British Overseas Territories. The next meeting of the Friends of St Helena will be held at the Victory Services Club) on October 24 2015.
