NEWS FROM FOTBOT
The Board of Trustees of UK-registered charity ‘Friends of the British Overseas Territories’ (‘FOTBOT’) confirms the appointment of Trevor Botting as its new Chief Executive-elect.
This appointment follows the planned departure of FOTBOT Founder and current Chief Executive, Philip Smith, after 12 years in the role. We thank Philip for everything he has done in making FOTBOT what it is today.
About Trevor Botting
Trevor has a career spanning four decades in law enforcement and has extensive experience as an executive leader in policing. Having spent thirty years policing in Sussex, Trevor became one of the longest serving senior police officers working and living in the British Overseas Territories; being Chief of Police for St Helena, Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha and then Commissioner in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Since retiring from policing, Trevor has become involved in the charity sector, as Chair of the Board of Trustees for a criminal justice charity.
Trevor Botting, incoming Chief Executive said:
“Having spent ten years living and working in the British Overseas Territories they and their people, culture and diversity are close to my heart; they are truly a jewel in the UK Crown.
I am delighted and privileged to be asked to lead the terrific FOTBOT Team as we aim to support, raise awareness and promote the beautiful and unique British Overseas Territories.”
Andrew Fox, Chair of Trustees said:
“The Trustees are delighted to announce their choice of Trevor Botting as Chief Executive-elect to fill the big shoes of Philip Smith, our inspirational and dedicated founder.
Trevor will build on the excellent momentum created by Philip and the FOTBOT team to take the organisation to a new level.”
Philip Smith, outgoing Chief Executive said:
“I am confident that Trevor’s experience and passion make him the ideal person to lead FOTBOT into its next chapter.
This is a pivotal moment for FOTBOT, marked by the current crisis over the British Indian Ocean Territory handover, presenting the new Chief Executive with the challenging and exciting task of leading us to the next level. Trevor Botting will take up the post in March 2025.”
